Emoji Artwork (Hot-linked)

All images are loaded directly from jsDelivr CDN. We never vendor, host, or redistribute any emoji artwork.

Open Graph Images, App Icons & Social Pins (Redistributed)

The social-preview images served from /og/, the app icons served from /icons/, and the Pinterest pins served from /pin/ are generated by us and embed Twemoji artwork. This is redistribution rather than hot-linking, and it is permitted: Twemoji graphics are licensed CC-BY 4.0, which expressly allows redistribution and derivative works provided the work is attributed. This section is that attribution.

• Typefaces: Noto Sans, Noto Sans Math, Noto Sans Symbols and Noto Sans Symbols 2 by the Noto Project — all licensed SIL Open Font License 1.1. Used at build time only; the fonts themselves are not served from this site. The three symbol faces render the styled alphabets on our fancy-text pins, which are Unicode characters from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols and Enclosed Alphanumerics blocks rather than a styled typeface — ordinary text fonts do not contain them.
• No Emoji Kitchen artwork, and no proprietary emoji set (Apple, Samsung, WhatsApp, Facebook, JoyPixels), appears in any Open Graph image. Those are never redistributed.

AI-Generated Illustrations

Some editorial illustrations on this site — currently the hero images on blog posts, served from /hero/ — are generated by an AI image model (OpenAI gpt-image-2). We say so plainly because a reader is entitled to know whether a picture depicts something real. These are decorative illustrations, never photographs, never depictions of real people or events, and never used as evidence for anything stated in an article.

They carry no third-party licence and are not attributed to an artist, because there is no artist to attribute. Under OpenAI’s terms the rights in generated output pass to the user who created it, so these are ours to publish. Each file also embeds the exact prompt that produced it, so its provenance travels with the image rather than depending on this page.

Excluded Artwork

Apple, Samsung, WhatsApp, Facebook, and JoyPixels emoji artwork is not referenced anywhere on this site. These sets are proprietary and we do not rely on fair use. The visitor's own system font renders the emoji natively on their device — we never serve or export that rendering.

Emoji Kitchen Artwork

Emoji Kitchen mashup images are © Google LLC, hot-linked from www.gstatic.com. Google has published no open licence for this artwork (upstream issue #190 is unresolved). We never copy or redistribute these images — the visitor's browser fetches them directly from Google. This is the same approach used by emojikitchen.dev and similar sites. A KITCHEN_ENABLED kill switch can remove all Kitchen pages instantly if needed.

OpenMoji is licensed under CC-BY-SA-4.0, which requires that any derivative work also be licensed under CC-BY-SA-4.0. We do not modify OpenMoji artwork — we hot-link the original PNG/SVG files from the OpenMoji CDN. The share-alike obligation applies to derivatives, not to hot-linking.
